November 17, 2010Good evening! It's 10:19PM here in the Philippines as of writing. I had slept for two hours earlier and I have awoke with high energy. I do not know where it came from but it did bothers me so I thought I might share this experience with you all. This happened two years ago at exactly the last week of August 2008. As you might already know, I have this huge fright of deep water. I am scared of huge depths of water. The reason for this is that I am not a very good swimmer since I possessed a flat foot and a very unusual weight issues. It's not an excuse though but honestly, I cannot swim! I hated water because of that. I'm not confident because I can only float for about 10 seconds then, sink. I remembered my then girlfriend (asawa nako karun) invited me to dive with her along with her office mates. The worst part about that invitation was that I agreed. I do not know what came over me but I agree to do my most hated thing in the world. Di ba wierd??? I do not know if it was for love or it was for the bravado but I suffered the consequences afterwards. When the experience was about to be commenced, I was sober from booze. That in itself is not allowed when you dive several feet below sea level.
We arrived at 6am

in the morning to prepare a mini ferry ride to the dive spot. I was with China Bank Matina Branch personnel. It was at Sta. Ana Warf. All those mini ferries where lined there except for the barge that carries vehicles to Samal Proper. You have to go to Lanang and pay 250 Pesos for the car to be ferried across. We were warned about the do's and dont's of diving before we actually dive. We were given a handful of signals in order to warn the professional divers about your feelings under water. They make sure that you are OK or else they will hoist you back up. You must protect yourself at all cost since you cannot yell help underwater! You must signal your handler at all cost even if you are OK. It prevents you from suffocating or having underwater troubles. Before the dive, they ensure that you are properly weighted! They will put around 8 kilos of metal around your waist! Imagine this, they need you to sink!
What would that make me feel? Anyways, I proceeded as plan. Never caring for my welfare as long as the dive gets done! Mga 30 to 45 minutes ang biyahe padulong sa Talikod Islands. This Island is a part of Samal Islands. This is where the dive spot is located. I also learned how to equalize pressure by blowing your nose to release air from your ears. This prevents air build up sa likod sa imung ulo. Kung dili ni nimo buhaton, murag mu buto imu ulo and grabe pud sya ka sakit. They also make you wear those super sikip nga mga dive suits. Ma klaro jud ang mga curves sa lawas specially those horizontally challenged people. Haha! They will check you balancer ug uban pang mga gadget nga maka nosebleed. Luckily, naa pa diay na sigo sa akoa nga dive suit and a pair of size
12 flippers! The dive spot pic is located at the left. Mabaw ra tan awon pero 6 feet na s'ya. I hate water jud! The allowable dive range is from 15 to 30 feet below sea level. Katung akong leche nga handler, gi dala kaha ko about 45 to 50 feet below! Unya? Unsa akong na feel? Mura kog na biyaan ug mama!! It was frightful. You need to stay at a certain feet for 10 minutes before raising for another 10 feet so that your veins will not explode due to pressure. Dili man s'ya hadlok noh? They made me touch those alien looking animals and made me pose lika a mermaid!! Pak!! Hahahaha. It was overall enjoyable since it was a new experience pero I know deep inside my deepest vowels that I will never dive again! Never is never. So the next time someon will ask me, Dive ta sa Bohol, Siargao, Baroy or whatever Dive spot you can name, I will answer this, KAMO RA!! My mermaid pics are posted below. Enjoy watching my suffering underwater!

One of the Aliens underwater! Spider Man meets Aqua Man mutant Edition!!

This sign is called OK! Your handler will point at you and signal if you're OK. You respond by doing this! Noob moves actually.

Under the sea! Under the Sea!! Kanang X diha, natabunan pa ang uban X. Meaning XXL, Haha!
Mau na ang size sa suit. This shot was taken at 30 feet below sea level. Mau pud na ang dagway sa hang over! hahaha!

Be very afraid! Bitaw, gi hangak baya pud ning tawhana sa akoa. Ga lisod s'ya ug dala sa akoa and na timing pa jud nga against sa amoa ang current. Mejo kaba gamay nga ma off course ka! Di ba lain?? So thanks for visiting mga good people of the Philippines. Until the next episode of getting lost in the Philippines!
